Andover Armed Forces Day is making a highly anticipated comeback on Saturday, June 24, 2023, and promises to be an exciting day for the entire family.
Held at Vigo Park, this event provides a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together and show their unwavering support for the dedicated men and women who make up the Armed Forces.
The event aims to honor and appreciate the entire Armed Forces community, including currently serving troops, reservists, veterans, cadets, and their families. With a wide range of engaging activities, there will be something for everyone to enjoy and get involved in.
One of the highlights of the day will be the opportunity to explore military vehicles and equipment up close. From tanks to helicopters, attendees can get a firsthand look at the impressive machinery that is instrumental in the Armed Forces’ operations. The Royal Engineers will also be present, showcasing their skills and offering informative demonstrations.
For those interested in pursuing a career in the Armed Forces, recruitment teams will be available to provide valuable information and guidance. They will be happy to discuss the diverse range of career opportunities available and answer any questions aspiring individuals may have.

Love Andover, the esteemed organizers of the event in previous years, are thrilled to see Andover Armed Forces Day return after a hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Love Andover initially brought back the event in 2017, captivating the hearts of thousands of attendees. They continued to successfully run the events in 2018 and 2019, establishing a strong tradition of honoring our Armed Forces.
Love Andover will be offering their unwavering support to the event without being directly involved in its organization this time around. The Andover Armed Forces Day 2023 is a family-friendly event with plenty of entertainment for everyone. An exciting Arena programme will keep attendees enthralled, while bands, parades, and live music will provide a vibrant atmosphere throughout the day. The event, which will run from 12 pm to 5 pm, promises to be a showstopper, with the highlight being an awe-inspiring Apache helicopter from the Army Air Corps at Middle Wallop.
Joining the Apache will be a selection of other military vehicles, both contemporary and historical, including the Gazelle helicopter. The Andover Armed Forces Day committee chairman, Richard Rowles, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am sure people will agree that we are privileged to have one of the world’s most advanced pieces of military technology come to our event.” He emphasized the extensive planning involved to ensure a safe and visually impressive arrival of the multi-million pound flying gunship, with coordination among the army, police, and local councils.
In addition to the captivating displays and demonstrations, the event will also feature exhibitions, reenactments, and activities designed for families to enjoy together. The Royal Engineers will engage attendees with bridge-building activities, while bushcraft activities will provide an opportunity to learn essential survival skills. The mayor and deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire will be present to personally present medals to former forces personnel, a special moment of recognition and gratitude.
To enhance the overall experience, there will be various refreshments available, fairground rides to entertain the young ones, and a bar for adults to relax and enjoy the day. Local artists will provide live music, adding to the lively atmosphere and showcasing the talents within the community.
