As of August 31, 2024, Andover Mind will no longer provide the Carer Support and Dementia Advice Service commissioned and funded by Hampshire County Council.
Starting in September 2024, a new countywide service, also commissioned and funded by Hampshire County Council, will be introduced under the name “Hampshire Carer Support Service.” This new initiative will be delivered by the Princess Royal Trust for Carers.
The Hampshire Carer Support Service will cater to carers over the age of 18 who assist individuals with long-term health conditions, including dementia, as well as those with physical or learning disabilities. The service aims to provide a comprehensive range of support, including:
- Information and advice
- One-to-one support for complex needs
- Contingency and emergency planning to help carers prepare for unexpected situations
The primary goal is to ensure carers can sustain their caregiving roles while maintaining their own health and well-being.
It is important to note that the new contract does not include the Dementia Advice element, as there is no statutory provision for this aspect of support. We recognise this may be concerning for some, and we are committed to supporting our existing service users during this transition.
Andover Mind expresses sincere gratitude for the trust and support received over the past 16 years. We are committed to your continued well-being during this period of change.
Although Andover Mind will cease providing the Carer Support and Dementia Advice Service, the mental health charity will continue to deliver a wide range of services, groups, and activities aimed at supporting well-being. These will be available at their centres in Andover, Basingstoke, and Aldershot, as well as in the community through their Ugly Duckling retail store and the Garden for Mind on the Leckford Estate.
Andover Mind will continue to process new referrals into the service until August 31, 2024. After this date, carers will need to contact the new provider through their website at carercentre.com.
