Christmas begins in Andover

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Andover.

Christmas decorations are just being put up in the Chantry Centre – this follows Friday’s Christmas lights switch on in the High Street.

The event has been heralded as the best yet with acts like Portway Glee Club, Vigo Primary School Choir and Jake Ward entertaining the crowds.

The crowds stretched from the Guildhall down to Bridge Street.

Portway Juniors year 4 pupil Olivia Sacree switched on this year’s lights after winning a poetry competition on Andover Radio.  She told Andover Radio, “It was scary because I have never seen so many people before in one area.

“It was a great experience”.

This year’s event was sponsored by Basepoint Business Centre.  The lights were supplied by Andover Town Council, the fireworks were courtesy of the Chantry Centre and the whole event was organised by Test Valley Borough Council.
