The A Team’s Auction Raises £5,000 for The Countess Of Brecknock Hospice

An Auction of Promises, organised by four village residents who share the first name of Alison and call themselves the ‘A’ Team, resulted in a donation of £5,000 to Andover’s Countess of Brecknock Hospice Trust.

The auction took place in the Pentons Village Hall and offered items ranging from two hours of ironing which raised £32, to six jars of home-made marmalade which sold for £62, and to high-end tickets at the 02 in London for the farewell tour of British pop mega-star Elton John, which were knocked down for £2,800.

The proceedings were officiated by retired Andover auctioneer John May, who teased and chivvied bidders into parting with their money. Several lots exceeded the £100 mark and a clay-shooting and lunch donation raised £520.

The generosity of local businesses and individuals reflected the area’s interests and activities, with dog-owners, wines- and spirits-drinkers, fine-diners, singers, gardeners, would-be photographers, bee-keepers and candle-makers, all catered for.

The organisers, (left to right) Alison Gwynne-Davies, Alison Needham, Alison Gregory and Alison Williams, presented the cheque to the Hospice Trust’s Community Fundraising and Events Organiser Claire Godding while visiting the new Hospice building, which was opened in 2020.
