Countess of Brecknock Hospice annual fundraising appeal launches in Andover

The Countess of Brecknock Hospice Charity has this week launched its annual fundraising appeal, calling on the community to help support their mission of providing palliative and end of life care to every adult diagnosed with a life limiting illness and their families when and where they need it.

Homes around Andover, Ludgershall, Stockbridge, Sutton Scotney, Whitchurch and surrounding areas will begin to receive the hospices appeal letter from this week.

You can also support the Hospice by donating to the appeal online by visiting www.cobh.org.uk/support-us/2024-annual-door-drop-appeal-make-a-difference-today/ or by calling 01264 359789. Every contribution helps ensure that hospice care can live on for all, for now, forever.

Jane’s husband Ian was cared for the hospice’s community and Home Care Teams. Jane said: “Ian got ill very suddenly but enjoyed a remission due to some very effective immunotherapy treatment. But when the cancer returned, we were determined he should spend his final days in the comfort of our home.

Through the hospice’s community team, we arranged a daily half hour visit from their Home Care team. They were fantastic. They really felt like our friends. We laughed a lot, and they were all admirable. There was far more help than I could have imagined.”

Since opening its doors, the hospice has been offering free, round-the-clock support both at the hospice and in patients’ homes. As the demand for these vital services grows, the hospice charity is seeking donations to ensure it can continue to support the hospice deliver its mission.

Michele Gard, the Countess of Brecknock Hospice Charity Director said: “Each gift we receive through our appeal will help us support families like Ian and Jane, ensuring that we can fulfil last wishes and help patients experience the supported, dignified end-of-life care they choose.”

The launch of this appeal coincides with Hospice Care Week, which takes place from 7–13 October. This national event is an opportunity to celebrate the remarkable work hospices across the country do to ensure that everyone can benefit from the very best end-of-life care. The Countess of Brecknock Hospice is proud to stand alongside other hospices nationwide, recognising the incredible efforts of healthcare professionals and volunteers who offer dignity, comfort, and compassion to patients and their families.
