Author Nigel Macknight leads a team aiming to bring the World Water Speed Record back to Britain. He’s coming to illustrate the record’s 100-year history, before, during and after the remarkable Bluebird dynasty, and provide an insider’s view of work to get a new boat, Quicksilver, on the water. With a long background in aviation, Nigel will also recount tales from his times aloft with NASA astronauts and test-pilots, the Red Arrows, and the Army Air Corps’ very own Blue Eagles – back in the era when they flew the characterful Sioux.
This promises to be a fascinating and exciting multimedia presentation, embracing cutting-edge aircraft as well as boats, with a strong aeronautical content from one who has spent a lifetime delving into “things with wings”. It will be the first lecture in the newly-refurbished museum – one delivered in a unique style that’s sure to be as enjoyable as it is informative.
