Two local borough councillors have awarded a ‘Councillor Community Grant’ of £567 to the Penton Mewsey Parish to go towards improving community amenities in the area.
The grant will help the parish install a digital projector and provide Wi-Fi internet coverage in the village hall. This will enable the venue to host new events including illustrated talks, computer classes and advice on using the internet safely, community quiz nights and games evenings, which were requested by residents in a recent village survey.
Local ward councillor, Pam Mutton, who awarded the grant along with Cllr Phil Lashbrook, said “We are delighted to be able to support this project which will help local residents of all ages to come together socially, make new friends and help prevent social isolation in the community. The new facilities will allow the village hall to be used for a wider range of new social events for local residents.”
Neville Carrick, Vice Chair of the Parish Recreation Committee added “This project will broaden the nature of events we can run in the hall, attracting and encouraging a wider section of the community to become involved in the village network. The events themselves will also be educational and enjoyable.
“I would like to thank Cllr Mutton and Cllr Lashbrook for their continued support for our local residents, and for providing these funds to help improve the facilities locally.”
The Test Valley Borough Council Councillor Community Grant scheme helps to fund community-led initiatives. Local councillors allocate funds to projects that they identify as meeting a need in the community based on feedback and ideas from residents.
