Which Andover Pubs will be open? And what to expect

Pubs in England are permitted to open once again from Saturday 4th July.

It was a Friday in late March when pub landlords learned that they must close their doors to customers that day – for the foreseeable future. From this Saturday they may open again, but not all venues have chosen to open on the first day available to them, though.

New guidance sets out a range of measures for pubs to become Covid-19 secure.

WHAT DIFFERENCES TO EXPECT

  • landlords have been asked to support the NHS Test and Trace system by keeping a temporary record of customers and visitors for 21 days. This means you may have to ‘sign in and out’ of a pub.
  • expect to make use of table service
  • it’s unlikely you will be permitted to stand at the bar
  • a protective ‘sneeze screen’ may be between you an the bar staff when ordering at the bar
  • you may be asked to order drinks using an downloadable app such as ‘Round’
  • you will be encouraged to use contactless payments, or use the app
  • expect many more staff, maybe expect to be asked not to move chairs between tables
  • expect some screens between you and the next table
  • there will be no live bands or DJs, in fact expect jukeboxes to be on a low volume (this is so as ‘not to incite singing or dancing’)
  • you will be asked to use hand sanitiser or handwashing facilities as you enter the venue, use toilets or gaming facilities
  • you will see clear signage walls and floors explaining social distancing rules
  • expect a one way system through pubs
  • you will be asked to maintain a distance of one metre or more between you and other customers

It is anticipated that the Police service will be patrolling pubs on Saturday, making use of PSCOs where possible. Police will be ensuring that customers are following pubs’ advice and that pubs themselves have adequate measures in place and that their staff are following the rules. Failure to accept instruction from pub staff can see you removed from the premises.
