The Music Service’s teachers normally work face to face with pupils but are currently supporting all schools across the county with a wide range of music provision and resources that can be accessed remotely from home.
Councillor Roz Chadd, the County Council’s Executive Member for Education and Skills, said, “Music is a great stress reliever and it has been heartening to see so many people joining online choirs and remote performances throughout the lockdown period. Within Hampshire, the exciting resources put together by our Music Service can be enjoyed by all children, whether they’re continuing their programme of music tuition at home, home schooling or just for fun.
“Pupils who are learning to play an instrument with the Music Service have continued their weekly lessons online with their music teachers, and I know the feedback the Service has received for this has been overwhelmingly positive – the tutors have really risen to the challenge and Hampshire’s children and young people are benefiting by continuing their musical education without interruption.”
A varied and wide range of free music learning resources are available for all primary and secondary ages, such as ‘Keep calm and keep making music’ for primary pupils, a set of fun musical activities focused on making and finding out about music through games and song.
Parents and pupils are encouraged to visit their school website where all curriculum and instrumental resources and online lessons can be accessed through the Hampshire Music Service Virtual Learning Zone.
