Sporting success for community event in Andover

Hockey, football and athletics were all on the menu for 50 children who took part in the Andover Community Sports event on Monday.

Coaches from Andover Athletics Club, Andover Hockey Club and the Saints Foundation all ran sessions for the children at the free event at Charlton Sports Centre, organised by Test Valley Borough Council and Hampshire Constabulary.

As well as the sporting drills and training that was put on, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service took the opportunity to educate the youngsters on how to stay safe in the community.

Portfolio holder for community and leisure, councillor Tony Ward, said: “This is the second successful event of its kind this summer and the enjoyment and education it can offer youngsters is fantastic.

“Being able to offer this in Andover as well as Romsey means we, together with the police and fire service, can reach even more children to offer them a fun day out.

“My thanks again go to the local hockey and athletics club as well as the Saints Foundation who came to take part and ensure all youngsters left suitably worn out!”

The Partnership Community Sports sessions are run annually by the council and other organisations and a free for those aged between eight and 15-years-old.
