A housing development in Andover has been voted in the “Top 50 Affordable Housing Developments 2013” as voted by a panel of judges at Inside Housing magazine.

The Radian built development at Sunfield Close, Mylen Road, in Andover consists of 17 homes – 12 affordable rent and 5 shared ownership and was built at a cost of £2.2m.

In 2008, Test Valley Borough Council invited housing associations to submit bids for a sustainable affordable housing scheme on the former disused allotment site.

The site is quite narrow but the design by the architects, Architecture PLB, cleverly allows the homes to not directly overlook the neighbours’ gardens.

Judge Alex Ely said: “I thought what was clever about it was that it works with a really constrained site.

The vote covered entries from over 6,000 homes with a tough criteria for inclusion covering funding, land planning, sustainability, design, employment and testimonials from residents.
