Andover Ladies continued their development with another confident display in round two of the Hampshire touch rugby series.
Andover have trained hard since the last round and recruited several new players and now look a force to be reckoned with alongside early favourites Fareham Heathens.
In this round of fixtures it was indeed Heathens who were first up and they quickly pressured the home team eventually scoring the opening try.
A reshuffle at half time improved Andover and new recruit from Wellington Academy Lisa grabbed a fine equaliser. The draw was confirmed by a good defensive display from newcomer Vicky Brown.
In the next game Fordingbridge proved just as tough and although Andover started brightly they were soon tested in defence.
With Scarlett Phillips Rogers and Emma Dowinton in great form however Andover held firm and another Wellington academy recruit Chelsea Peel rewarded them with a fine pacey try.
In the last game Andover’s pace and fitness was too much for a tiring US Portsmouth.
Kim Powell shone in defence to stifle an early US effort before Lara McDonald scored two first half tries to set them on their way.
After the break the floodgates opened and Andover ran riot.
Abby Goddard ran in a well taken hat trick of tries to cement her place as top scorer and there were further tries for Susan Mitchell and Lisa Wood as Andover cruised to a seven nil win.
All in all it was a fine day for Andover who ran out overall winners of round two to confirm their title credentials.
