Local singer / songwriter Bethany Hayter is lined up to support Hazel O’Connor when she plays at The Lights on Wednesday 9th April 2014 for her Breaking Glass Barefoot Tour.
Hazel O’Connor became famous as a musician in the early eighties with hits such as “Eighth Day”, “D-Days” and “Will You” and the album “Breaking Glass” from the film of the same name in which she played Kate.
Bethany is very excited about being picked to be support: “I am incredibly excited about this chance, and so grateful to Heather (Whittam) for asking me! I can’t wait to perform, and hopefully meet Hazel!”
“I think Hazel has such a beautiful voice, especially now it has matured. I love her song ‘Will you’ and also her Snow Patrol cover.”
Asked whether she would be playing some of her own material, Bethany said “I’ll be playing my own songs as well as some covers. I’ve recently written two new songs so will definitely play them!”
Heather Whittam said “Wherever we can we try and offer support slots for visiting shows to local performers and when I was asked for a local support for Hazel O’Connor, Bethany was always going to be my first choice.”
“I first saw Bethany perform when she auditioned for a carnival competition and I was completely blown away by her voice and talent. She has just got better and better over the last couple of years and I am thrilled we have been able to give her this opportunity to support Hazel in what is going to be a truly fantastic show.”
Hazel will be accompanied by saxophonist Clare Hirst (who has played with the Bellestars, Communards, David Bowie) and pianist Sarah Fisher (Eurythmics). She will be performing both old and new songs – and will also hold a special Meet & Greet immediately after the show.
