Andover’s new radio station has made one giant leap towards launching its service for the town.
The lease on Andover Radio’s premises on the upper high street was signed yesterday, meaning an official launch date can be confirmed soon.
The dilapidated premises will be renovated to house state-of-the-art digital radio studios, a television presentation studio, meeting rooms and a large conference suite.
Radio station director Mo Sweeney says, “The space is fully digitally-enabled and with a range of publicity services from video production, graphic design, public relations and media in the building, we will welcome local not-for-profit groups and organisations to come and make use of our facilities and skills to promote the great work they do.”
As covered in today’s Andover Advertiser, the local radio station is awaiting planning approval from Test Valley Borough Council for change of use permission of the old American Express offices to ‘Offices with Radio Studio’. The offices have been empty for ten years.
The radio station’s agreement with the landlord will also enable small and start-up enterprises to make use of the range of marketing, media and publicity facilities on site.
“We are a community organisation“, says director David Harber. “We remain true to our word about making our services available to all, for the benefit of people, businesses and community organisations in the town.
“I just hope anyone coming to visit can put up with the creative feel, garish colours and unusual internal designs we have planned for the open office area“.
The lease agreement with Aviva Life and Pensions Limited which has taken eight months from initial ‘Heads of Agreement’ was signed yesterday (January 4th 2018).
Andover Radio was offered a licence to broadcast by the government Office of Communications (“Ofcom”) in June 2016 and plans to launch on or near the Easter bank holiday.
