This year’s primary school leavers are among the tenth cohort of pupils to take part in the Andover Junior Graduation and celebrate their achievements.

More than 470 Year Six pupils have graduated from nine different schools across the town this year. The ceremony, held at The Lights, congratulates students as they move from primary or junior school on to secondary school and encourages them and their parents or carers to consider higher education in future years.

Three separate celebrations have taken place this year for pupils at Portway Junior School, Anton Junior School, Roman Way Primary School, Endeavour Primary School, St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School, Knights Enham Junior School, Andover Church of England Primary School, Balksbury Junior School and Vigo Primary School.

Test Valley Borough Council funds and organises the event with the support of the University of Winchester. Sarah-Louise Collins, Director for Widening Participation at the university said “We recognise the values of education, community and celebrating success and are proud to have supported Test Valley Borough Council set up their first Junior Graduation in 2008 to now, ten years on. We are delighted to be a part of such a well-established community event that celebrates the achievements of local children and their transition to secondary school.”

Economic Development and Tourism Portfolio Holder, Councillor David Drew, added: “I was delighted to be at Andover Junior Graduation this year. A number of parents of children receiving the certificates told me how pleased they were to see their own children receive recognition of their achievements prior to moving on to their secondary school in the autumn. All the pupils should rightly be very proud of everything they have accomplished in the past few years.”
