Sunday 24th June will see members of the public, the Armed Forces, local businesses & charitable organisations come together to celebrate Armed Forces Day 2018.
This free family friendly event, taking place between 10am and 6pm, is hosted by Love Andover and held at Vigo Park near Andover town centre, is the town’s way of saying ‘Thank You!’ to, and recognising, the achievements & sacrifices made by our Armed Forces; joining millions of people across the country in remembrance and celebration.
With a thriving schedule of family attractions, bands, and demonstrations, Armed Forces Day 2018 is proudly supported by a range of local businesses.
Janine Shipley of the Army Welfare Service is looking forward to this year’s event.
“Last year’s Andover Armed Forces Day was a great success and we are looking forward to next month and see the town and surrounding area celebrate our armed forces.”
Maurice Sweeney, Director of Love Andover, commented on the event “As an ex-Royal Engineer who has made this town my home. Andover is a town with historic military links, it’s so important for us to mark this special day, and recognise everything the Armed Forces has contributed to our community.
“I’m incredibly grateful to every one of our supporters – local businesses, performers, and of course the MOD – for ensuring this event is a success, and I look forward to seeing everyone on the day.”
The day will be highlighted by an Apache Helicopter, Royal Engineers bridge building race fairground rides, local performers, and interactive military demonstrations; with bands such as the Southern playing from 6pm.
AFD Team Coordinator Richard Rowles said “If you were blown away with last years event you be amazed with this years as it’s even better still. We’ve got a great team of people to help promote and organise the event this year. ”
Love Andover is the community development arm of the towns new radio station Andover Radio 95.9FM the town new radio station on 95.9FM which positively promoting local events, organisations.
