The new organisers of the Andover Proms concert are now making it a free event.

In an amazing turn of events, organisers have completely removed the ticket price for the event, after rescuing it when the town council withdrew their support earlier this month.

After scrutinising the council’s plans, gaining support from local businesses and the Andover Vision, Love Andover will now out on the patriotic musical extravaganza with free admission.

The ‘Last Night of the Proms’ charity event was in jeopardy last month when Andover town council claimed they could face “unexpected costs” despite having had control of the finances since late last year and wanting to charge up to £15 per ticket.

Event Organiser Richard Rowles says, “This happy new arrangement allows us to continue with plans to raise money for two great local charities, Andover Mind and the Countess of Brecknock Hospice.

“Although the event is free to enter, I believe most local people will be gracious enough to make a small donation on entry. We will be fully refunding people who have bought tickets”.

Performances from local musicians including ‘The Mighty Hump’ and Lisa Faye (The Barbra Streisand Experience) have been retained and the ‘Last Night of the Proms’ finale will still be shown live from the Royal Albert Hall on a massive outdoor TV screen.

Andover Proms is 5:30pm to 10:30pm on Saturday 9th September at Vigo Park and still has a licensed bar, catering and toilet facilities. While visitors are welcome to bring their own chairs at no cost, visitors could secure VIP seating for a small donation.

Event information can be found at www.loveandover.com/proms and a promotional team will be in the High Street promoting the event tomorrow (Saturday 26th August) from 11am.
