A Portway Junior School pupil has been selected as this year’s Christmas Star.
A poem written by 8-year old Olivia Sacree from Class 4MK was selected by the Mayor of Andover as the winning entrant in this year’s Christmas Star competition.
Olivia was announced on this morning’s Steve Randall in the Morning breakfast programme. Olivia came to Andover Radio to record her poem, which will be turned into a video to be shown on the BIGTV screen this Friday.
All schools from across Andover were invited to ask pupils to write a festive poem and send to local radio station 95.9FM Andover Radio. Entries were narrowed down to 11, for the Town Mayor and members of the town council to make the difficult final choice.
Mayor of Andover Cllr Barbara Long says, “It was such a difficult decision, all the entries were of extremely high quality.
“We really liked Olivia’s entry, especially because of the references to the Christmas Lights and why Christmas isn’t just about receiving presents”.
Olivia’s mum Gemma said, “Olivia is such an entertainer, she was already going to be on stage with the Portway Glee Club on Friday, but don’t think the fact she’s going to switch the lights on has quite sunk in yet. We’re proud of both our girls, and really looking forward to Friday.
“It’s going to be a really incredible event”.
