Feeling creative?

For those of you with a creative element in you, Chapel Arts Studio (CAS) are offering the chance for free creativity days with their new Artist in Residence, John McDonald.

He is looking for participants from all walks of life to join with him on a three month project called Themes of Life

The idea is to paint the stories and history discovered and shared in Andover Cemetery (past and present). The final show could combine elements of other art forms such as singing, music, poetry, and drama. This project is sponsored by disability arts charity Unlimited. John is deaf and accompanied by Kathy, his sign language interpreter.

“I tried to go to art classes 20 years ago, I was terrified.” said John “Growing up I was desperate for paint, I was lucky if people threw a crayon at me, and the paper was grey! When you visit me at The Chapel in the Andover Cemetery it’s not going to be an art class, it’s going to be a club where we support each other to make spectacular art rooted in local history and personal stories.”

To start with, John will be working with members of the public 11am – 3pm on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s from 12 Feb 2020

Booking is essential, as space is limited. Please email susan@chapelartsstudios.co.uk to register your interest by 7th February. To find out more, join CAS for John’s launch event on Friday 7th Feb at Chapel Arts Studios to get a taste of what’s to come. You’ll see an exhibition of his paintings, and find out more about his vision for the project when you visit between 5pm and 8pm.
