Firefighters take on 9/11 challenge in aid of firefighters charity

Firefighters Donna Bowsher and Shaun Winter took on the 9/11 challenge to raise money for the firefighters charity today.

The challenge is to climb 110 floors while wearing full BA (breathing Apparatus) kit and on air. This is in memory of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives rescuing people from the World Trade Centre in New York, USA.

In honour of those who lost their lives on 9/11/2001, and in continued honour of our first responders and military who protect us from foreign and domestic threats, we are going to attempt the  911 Stair climb.  The World Trade Center’s Twin Towers each consisted of 110 floors and 2071 steps.

Whilst people ran out they ran in – we will remember them.

This event took place at 08:46 today and took 43 minutes in full fire kit, with a BA set on, under air.

So far they have managed to raise over £1000 for their charity. If you would like to help them raise more please go to their fundraising page

Needless to say, we are all very proud of both of you and well done for completing such a gruelling challenge!
