Former Winton teacher publishes her debut book

Galaxy Girl: Bev Smith

A former Andover teacher has published her first book.

Bev Smith who taught at Winton School for over ten years from 2001 has released ‘Galaxy Girl’, billed as “a must read for any child thinking of running away to live in outer space”.

This wonderful book, with a big heart and full of belly laughs was launched last night at the Cancer Research shop on Andover high street.  The author, a former cancer sufferer, says the book is also “educational and potentially lifesaving”.

All the title character wants is a break from her family, but there’s such a thing as too much space.

You hate school. Your family is beyond annoying. Your only friend comes from a different planet, and she’s about to leave.

What’s a girl to do?

Fed up with life on Earth, Esme stows away on the spaceship taking Stella back to Kratos. And, so begins Esme’s adventure into a world beyond the stars. A world of strange creatures, thrilling journeys, heroic rescues and instant fame.

Oh, and school. Lots of school.

Along the way she discovers that friends may be greener on the other side, but they still can’t be trusted. Millions and billions of light years away from Earth, she sets in motion a plan to escape.

Unfortunately for her, they aren’t about to let their prize exhibit go anytime soon.

About the author:

After over 20 years of telling stories to her kids, and those in her classroom, Bev knew that, if she wanted to be a proper authory-type person, she’d have to learn how to write in a proper authory-type person way.

Having completed an MA in Writing for Children, #galaxygirl is her debut middle-grade book.
