Have you seen the new troll in Andover?

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?”

Keep a good look out next time you walk over Andover’s Troll bridge as there is a new Troll underneath!

The wooden figure, by a local artist, was commissioned  by Test Valley Borough Council to replace the 18 year old Troll head that had rotted away.

The new climbing Troll is made from Western Red Cedar, is approx. 6 feet in length and made by Hampshire chainsaw artist Richard Austin who said “The Troll was a really fun project, watch out for him when you are trip trapping across the bridge! ”

Leisure Portfolio Holder, Councillor Tony Ward said: “This is a spectacular and welcome addition to the range of public art we have on display within Test Valley. I hope both children and adults alike will visit the bridge to see the very lifelike figure which, together with the carvings of the poem on the footbridge and the  Billy Goats Gruff close by, helps keep the magic of storytelling alive.”

Richard visited East Street school to run workshops with two classes of children and carried out chainsaw carving displays for the whole school to see how public artworks such as the new Troll are created.

The project, which cost £3,500, was funded by section 106 funding for public art for Andover Town Centre projects.

I went to visit it with my own children, my youngest says its much better and warned the goats at the end of the bridge to be carefull and this one is more likely to catch them !!!
