Andover councillors have awarded £1,000 to Test Valley Community Services (TVCS) to help fund office improvements.

St Mary’s ward members Iris Andersen, John Cockaday and David Denny contributed £1,000 from the Councillor Community Grant scheme so that the community organisation can improve accessibility in its reception area.

The refurbishment includes an information hub, a dedicated area for Shopmobility customers and space for people with disabilities to move around comfortably.

Councillor Iris Andersen said, “The three of us were keen to award TVCS with the funding because we can all see how many people use the services.

TVCS run a wide variety of community projects, transport and independence schemes so it is great to be able to help more people feel comfortable in their office.

The Test Valley Borough Council Councillor Community Grant scheme helps to fund community-led initiatives. Local councillors allocate funds to projects that they identify as meeting a need in the community based on feedback and ideas from residents.

TVCS are the area’s council for voluntary services organisation and works with over 300 locally-based not-for-profit organisations.  They have also recently launched a new home care service, Cardea to provide healthcare and practical assistance services to people aged over 40.
