The Chair of Andover town council has candidly told Andover Radio that fellow town councillors “are worried” about plans to launch a radio version of Spotted in Andover.
Spotted in Andover has over 20,000 followers on their Facebook group. The group anonymises messages from users in Andover which question, challenge and promote events, people and activities in the town. Users are encouraged to comment on posts from unnamed contributors.
“People are worried”, says Cllr Katherine Bird. “They are worried what your plans are and are distrustful of your intentions”.
A spokesperson for Andover Radio responded, “Good. That’s precisely the point. Councillors should be challenged on their decisions, their motives and their abilities.
“If they’ve nothing to hide, there’s nothing to worry about”.
Andover Radio says the programme will fully comply with broadcasting law, but this doesn’t mean that the programme will be sanitised to protect individuals.
‘Spotted in Andover The Radio Show’ will be “an entertaining hour long weekly radio programme” when the radio station launches in the summer.
Administrators of Spotted in Andover conclude, “Be afraid, be very afraid”.
