Top of table success for Andover Town FC

Andover Town FC
Celebrations: Andover Town FC

Andover Town made it three wins in eight days yesterday and greatly enhanced their title prospects with a win at second placed Hamworthy United.

In an evenly and well contested game that was excellently refereed Andover took an early lead with a superb goal from Jason Silver, the striker curling the ball in to the top corner from the edge of the area.

An even half saw the home side equalise just before the break and despite chances for both sides the score was still one each with some twenty minutes remaining in the second half.

At this stage Town introduced Manny Seotan from the Bench, his first appearance since sustaining an injury before Christmas. His first act was to put the Town ahead with a totally unstoppable thirty yard thunderbolt and he then scored twice more to register a hat trick inside six minutes – and that was effectively game over.

The goals were his first for the Club

Andover New Street had the day off and saw Christchurch move six points clear at the top of Division One whilst Whitchurch picked up a point in a one all draw at New Milton.

Stockbridge lost 3-1 at home to Sway.

Weather permitting Whitchurch are due to entertain Downton on Monday evening whilst Andover Town travel to Bournemouth Poppies on Tuesday.

Town  now have a fourteen point lead at the top of the table and promotion is theirs to lose, so to speak, after the crucial victory yesterday when one could say it was a case of “Cometh the Hour,  cometh the Man(ny)
