Motorists Warned of Vehicle Thefts in Andover

Motorists in Andover are being reminded to keep their vehicles secure following a spate of thefts from vans in the town.

Since the beginning of February there have been four thefts from vehicles parked in different areas across Andover.

The incidents are as follows:

Overnight between February 18 and February 19 a van was parked in Azalea Court, Andover.  The rear doors of the van were forced open and £4000 worth of power tools were stolen.

Overnight between February 17 and February 18 offender/s tried to gain entry to a van parked on New Road, Middle Wallop.  No entry was gained and nothing was stolen.

Overnight between February 4 and February 5 entry was forced to a van parked on Old Winton Road, Andover.  Once inside the offender/s stole power tools valued at £2715.

Overnight between February 4 and February 5 entry was forced to a van parked in Bentall Place, Andover.  Once inside the offender/s took power tools valued at approximately £3000.

Inspector Paul Markham, said: “I am appealing for anyone with any information about these incidents to come forward.  Do you know anything about these thefts?  Have you recently been offered any power tools for sale?

“When parking at home, if possible, use a garage.  If this is not an option always try and park in a well-lit area.  Make sure you don’t leave any valuables in your car or anything on display that might attract an opportunist thief.  Fit an alarm or immobiliser to your vehicle and if you have a van, ensure the alarm system protects the cabin and load areas.”

If you see anyone behaving suspiciously or looking into vehicles, please contact police on 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress.

Anyone with information should contact the Andover police station on 101 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
