BBC To Deliver Biggest Education Offer

Our Children can learn whilst watching TV

The BBC is set to roll out it’s biggest ever educational offer across all of its platforms including two of its TV channels.

When?

Beginning on Monday 11th of January both CBBC and BBC Two will feature educational programming to support children and parents remote learning during this new lockdown period.

Where ?

CBBC will feature three hours of primary school programming from 9 am, this will include BBC Live Lessons and BBC Bitesize Daily. These will be in addition to their other educational programs such as Our School, Celebrity Supply Teacher and other more fun titles like Horrible Histories, Art Ninja and Operation Ouch.

Meanwhile, on BBC Two, Secondary aged children will be catered for with programmes aimed at the GCSE curriculum, with at least 2 hours of content each weekday.

Programmes are being built around the Bitesize Daily secondary shows, complemented by Shakespeare and classic drama adaptations alongside History, Science and other factual titles from the BBC’s factual unit.

The content shown on the BBC TV Channels will complement the BBC Bitesize resource online and other programming delivered via iPlayer and the Red Button.

Oliver Dowden, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, says, “The BBC has helped the nation through some of the toughest moments of the last century, and for the next few weeks it will help our children learn whilst we stay home, protect the NHS and save lives. “This will be a lifeline to parents and I welcome the BBC playing its part.”

The addition of the content via TV enables Children with restricted or no access to the internet, but do have access to TV, to be able to access educational content whilst they are not at school.

Education is absolutely vital – the BBC is here to play its part and I’m delighted that we have been able to bring this to audiences so swiftly.” Tim Davie, Director General
