Planning permission has been submitted to change the use of the old Blockbuster store to a Roosters Piri Piri restaurant and takeaway.

The proposal states: “Change of Use from Class A1 (retail) to Class A3 (Restaurant) with ancillary Class A5 (takeaway); alterations to shop (repositioning of entrance door, and installation of two sliding doors) and installation of flue.

If it goes through, the proposal would see it opening from 10:00am to 11:00pm Monday to Saturday and from 11:00am to 9:30pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays. It would also be a jobs boost with plans to employ 10 full time and 15 part time staff.

Roosters Piri Piri is a chain of casual dining, quick-service and takeaway restaurants. They are currently in London and around the South East of England, although they are expanding throughout the United Kingdom.

They specialise in spicy grilled Piri Piri chicken, but also serve gourmet burgers, grilled specialities and vegetarian meals. For an example of their menu click here.

    • Think this is getting ridiculous, andover town needs more decent shops for people to shop in, this town used to be a lot better then it is now we don’t need any more restaurants, we could do with something like a primark, need more shops.

      • Whilst some decent shops would be nice (and whilst I don’t really like the idea of Primark, my wife and kids do), I cannot see why we wouldn’t want some more choice in respect of restaurants. I still wish we had managed to get Prezzo into the town.

  • Yeah need better shps to shop in i like what others have put getting a primark would be great and some other decent shops to help get people comeing to andover not going to other places

  • This is utter crap one way of driving shoppers from our town as if we really need another eating place o well at least we have Basingstoke and other towns close to spend our little money in and make them richer and andover poorer well done council.

    • Basingstoke has a massively larger choice of restaurants than Andover, as well as a larger shopping centre with more choice. If we had more restaurants in Andover, we might choose to eat in Andover more often rather than going to other towns / cities. We do want more / better / more varied shops, but there’s space for both and it doesn;t make any sense to reject outlets that want to come to Andover just because you want something different. There’s plenty of space for more and the more we fill up the more attractive it becomes to other outlets.

  • I am an Andoverian and our shops at the moment are the worst , we had more 60 years ago. We had 3 departmental stores and quaint smaller shop with different goods. Andover does not have a heart and if we do not get any decent shops soon it will become a ghost town.
