PC Patrick Coveney, from Andover CID, said: “Over the last few weeks we have seen Mercedes Sprinter vans targeted for their catalytic converters within Andover and the surrounding areas.

Do you know who is responsible? If so, please contact us. I’d also like to remind people to consider a few crime prevention measures to try and reduce their chances of becoming a victim of this crime.

Where possible, park your vehicle in a garage or secure compound, preferably well lit and monitored by CCTV. If this is not possible then try and park in a well lit area which is overlooked, or in a secure ParkMark parking facility.

It has been reported that in some cases individuals have been removing the catalytic converters by accessing the engine compartment, so where possible always park in a way that makes access to the bonnet of the vehicle difficult.

If you have multiple vehicles, use the vehicle with the lowest clearance underneath to block the vehicle with the higher clearance. I hope that these tips can help people take an active role in preventing this type of crime.

Anyone with any information should contact PC Coveney at Andover police startion on 101 or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
