Gym-goers and staff from The Rapids in Romsey have proved their worth and defeated a team from Andover in a difficult gym challenge.

The competition, which included exercises such as box jumps and using monkey bars, is the second in a new series of quarterly challenges.

Four teams made up of four men and four women from Romsey and Andover took part in the challenge.

The team from The Rapids won the competition by just five points.

The Rapids in Romsey and Andover Leisure Centre, both managed by Valley Leisure, have introduced the gym challenges to spark some friendly competition and encourage members to try something new.

The winning team gets a shining trophy to keep until they’re beaten. Andover Leisure Centre’s gym team previously held the trophy after winning a deadlift challenge.

The challenges vary each quarter to allow people with a diverse range of abilities to take part.

Gerry Francis, the fitness and personal training coordinator at The Rapids, said: “We’re very happy that the gym challenges are doing so well, and that so many people are getting involved.”

The idea of the competition is to give our members something to aim for, and allow them to try something they might not have known they could do otherwise. And of course, it’s also fantastic when we win!

Team Rapids will be looking to defend their trophy in December, when they visit Andover for the next challenge.
