Projects in Test Valley to benefit from a share of Hampshire County Council’s ‘Have Your Say’ grant have been announced.

Hundreds of people across the borough voted to decide which projects would receive a slice of £17,000. The money was split between the north and south of Test Valley and residents were asked to rank the projects in priority order, with number one being the scheme they most wanted the money awarded to. The top three highest ranked projects in each area were guaranteed to receive the total amount of funding requested.

The top three projects in the north and amounts awarded in rank order are:

  1. Andover & District Mencap £2000
  2. The Anton River Conservation Association £2000
  3. Andover Fibromyalgia & M.E Chatterbox Group £1980

The remaining projects were reviewed in the order they were ranked by the public and the rest of the funds allocated until the total amount had been spent. As a result, the following projects will also receive a share of the Have Your Say funding:

  • Andover Trees United
  • Augusta Park Community Association
  • Breakers

Councillor Ian Carr, Leader of Test Valley Borough Council and Chairman of Test Valley Partnership, which is the organisation responsible for allocating the funds locally, said: “I am delighted that so many projects have been able to benefit from the Have Your Say funding. And perhaps even more importantly, the decision was made by the local community.”

I would like to thank all those who took time to submit a bid for funding as well as everyone who took part in the public vote. This cash has provided a lifeline for some of these projects which may otherwise have struggled to get off the ground.”

Hampshire County Council Executive Member for Communities and Partnerships, Councillor Andrew Joy, said: “The core principles of the ‘Have Your Say’ scheme are to identify and respond to community needs by enabling residents to select and evaluate funding opportunities.

It gives people a real voice in how money is spent in their local area and provides an opportunity for local grass roots community projects to be supported, so I am pleased to see the positive benefits of the scheme now reaching across Test Valley.
