Olaf Tryggvason story ( a time ring story)

When I Olaf Tryggvason
Was told by a seer that I would become a renowned king
and do celebrated deeds and bring
many men to faith and baptism
I laughed a hearty belly shaking laugh that any Viking would be proud of
but as the seer said the conspirators came and my men lay dead
and I was wounded almost to death
and carried upon a shield
and yet I survived
so near Andover I was baptised
after just over seven days healing of my wounds.
It was after then I seized the opportunity of being king
after Jarl Haakon had taken the daughters of the elite
to be his concubines even though he sent them home after a few weeks
when he grew tired them.
and the fighting between him and the Danish christian king
because he denied the Christian faith
I set sail as Haakon’s kingdom was in revolt
He hid in a hole in pigsty
With One his slaves called Kark
But Haakon’s slave sought a reward
Cut Haakon’s head off and presented it to me
But why should I reward treachery
I cut off the head of treacherous slave
and was confirmed as Norway’s king
I demanded that haakons men all be baptised and the all reluctantly agreed,
My rule was ambitious Christian reign
but it only lasted 5 years
In My ship the long serpent the mightiest ship in the north
I fought to the last
and cast my self overboard
to be seen no more.
As the battle of Svolder raged
I was only stopped by the combined Swedish, Danish and Wendish ships
Bolstered also by those of earl Haakon’s sons.
I went to my watery grave.

About the author

Dan Hooks

Hi there my name is Dan Hooks and I am a poet.

My poetry has many diverse themes from madness to the mundane, from fantasy and fable to philosophical and the darkness of reality (whatever that is).

I have been writing since I was 18 and have inspired other artists such as Benjamin Heine who created an piece of art work called”filled with fire” from my poem called “Freedom”. That poem was inspired from a quote from Nelson Mandela saying “we are free to be free”. Writing I find is a collaborative process.

I have also written other poems which have been used in language courses in America, Canada and Australia. One of which is called “poem on identity” and the other one is “Antithesis”.

I have a soundcloud account in which I post poems to music and my spoken word pieces. I find spreading my work on various social media platforms really useful for presenting my work.

I am also fond of travelling and have climbed Mount Fuji in Japan visited Finland skied in both USA in keystone Colorado and Whistler in Canada. I find perspective can be found in travelling to other countries and it also helps you appreciate other cultures as well your own.
