Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a medal was stolen during a burglary at a house in Galahad Close, Andover.
At about 3pm on June 5, the 66-year-old victim, went upstairs in his house and left the back door open.
When he came back downstairs a short time later, he noticed that a ring, a birthday card containing £10 and a medal which had belonged to his grandfather, had been stolen from his living room.
The medal was awarded to the victim’s grandfather by Seaham Harbour Police in 1913 after he had bravely carried out a citizen’s arrest of two men who were assaulting a police officer at the time.
PC Neil Plascott said: “This medal is of great sentimental value to the victim and I would urge anyone who knows where it is or has been offered it for sale, to contact police as soon as possible.”
Residents are reminded to ensure their doors and windows are secure at all times.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Andover CID on 101 or call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
