Supported by Hampshire County Council, the 28-day stop smoking challenge “Stoptober” begins today (1st October 2018).
Success rates for quitting smoking are at an all time high and smokers are up to four times more likely to quit with face-to-face support from Quit4Life, Hampshire’s stop smoking service commissioned by the County Council, than if they try unaided.
Last year Quit4Life helped 2,600 smokers to quit and are ready to offer expert support this Stoptober to those who want to stop smoking.
Councillor Patricia Stallard, Executive Member for Public Health at Hampshire County Council, said, “Whilst willpower is important, many people also need practical support to quit. Quit4Life can offer via face-to-face, online or telephone contact, along with the tools to make quitting easier, such as e-cigarettes and nicotine replacement therapy.
“If you are thinking of quitting, Stoptober is a great opportunity to get started.”
Nearly two thirds of smokers want to stop smoking to improve their health, protect their families and save money. In 2017-18, 57 per cent of smokers in Hampshire who received help from Quit4Life managed to quit. The success rate increased for those who also used an e-cigarette.
