Record-Breaking Andover Carnival 2024 Raises £6,000 for Local Charities

In a celebratory conclusion to the Andover Carnival 2024, approximately 100 attendees gathered at The Lights to mark the official end of a remarkable day.

This year’s carnival set numerous records, from the number of stalls in the park to the volume of lorries in the procession, and an unprecedented turnout from the local community. Culminating in a record-breaking fundraising effort, the event proved to be a resounding success.

The accumulation of countless 1p and 2p coins contributed to an astounding total of £6,000 raised this year. At the after-party, organisers proudly presented cheques of £3,000 each to Purple Oak Support and Girlguiding Andover Division. This generous donation will significantly benefit many local children in need, supporting various initiatives and activities.

Purple Oak Support expressed their gratitude, reflecting on their participation in the carnival. “Last night we attended the after-party AGM for the carnival! We were very fortunate to be chosen this year as one of the charities. We pitched for the opportunity to raise funds for the sensory garden in Rainbow Corner, which needs a bit of TLC.”

The organisation celebrated its 60th anniversary this year and marked the occasion with a dedicated float in the procession. Staff and supported individuals invested weeks in designing and creating elements for the float, including kites and posters, to bring their vision to life.

“The day went amazingly; it was busy and intense, but we loved every moment of it! We just really want to say thank you to everyone who stepped in and supported us. We are beyond grateful and appreciate you all!”

During the after-party, children from Rainbow Corner took to the stage, lighting up the room with their presence. Purple Oak Support representatives were then invited on stage to receive their £3,000 cheque. “We were shocked, amazed, and delighted! We didn’t think it would be so much! This means the world to us and means we can do more to the garden and make it so much more for every child that attends Rainbow Corner now and in the future.”

Expressing gratitude to the community, the organisers emphasised the pride in being part of such a supportive town. The dedication and generosity of Andover’s residents were highlighted as key elements in achieving this year’s record-breaking success.

With August set aside for a well-deserved break, the organisers will resume preparations in September for the next Andover Carnival. They encourage the community to stay tuned for updates on their social media pages.

Special thanks were extended to Will Delves from the Andover Photographic Club for capturing the memorable moments of the evening.

As Andover celebrates this year’s achievements, the anticipation for the next carnival is already building, promising even more community spirit and charitable support in the future.
