All parents in Hampshire, who applied on time for a school place for their children starting school in September 2021 at age 4 or 5, have been sent the outcome of their application by Hampshire County Council today (16 April 2021)
The County Council has processed more than 21,500 applications for children to start school in reception year (Year R) and to move from infant to their first year of junior education (Year 3). Just over 98 per cent (98.43 per cent) of parents have been offered a reception year place for their child in one of their three preferred choice schools, and just over 93 per cent (93.07 per cent) have been allocated a place at their first choice of school.
Of pupils transferring from infant school to junior school (Year 3), just over 99 per cent (99.1 per cent) received a place at one of their three choices, and just under 98 per cent (97.82 per cent) obtained a place at their first choice of school.
For the few cases where parents did not secure a place at a school of their choice, the County Council has advised them, in their notification, about the right to appeal and the arrangements for their preferred school’s waiting list. Places often become available after the offer day and before September for a variety of reasons, including families moving house or out of the area, or parents choosing to decline the place originally allocated for their child after having secured an alternative place at another school.
To support social distancing measures, parents of children starting school in Year R in September 2021 are advised to wait to be contacted by the school about how to present their proof of address and child’s date of birth, and to not attempt to visit the school ahead of this.
