“The town has been incredibly busy since lockdown lifted” – Andover BID thinking outside the box to draw attention to the town

During the recent Lockdown, The Andover BID have continued to support local businesses by ‘thinking outside the box’ on promotions that will draw attention to our fabulous market town and the outstanding businesses we have within it.

There have been a number of promotions and competitions by Andover BID and businesses within Andover Town to encourage shoppers to the High Street. The first week of trading following the lift of lockdown has been very positive with traders reporting good footfall and support from local people.

Bev Botha from The Travelling Cupcake said ‘It is great to see people in the High Street in good festive spirits, our town has always had a great local feel to it, now, with having the lockdown lifted people have started to venture out for their shopping, the feeling of support from not just regulars, but more people wanting to hit the High Street and shop local was apparent in the first week after lockdown’“.

Andover BID also spoke with Georgina Roberts, proprietor of Mooch Andover, who said

We are delighted that local people are supporting us this year. It has been interesting that nearly every other customer has commented that they are supporting local this Christmas to ensure the high street survives and On Saturday, Mooch was busier than Christmas eve last year“.

Andover BID Manager Steve Godwin said “The town has been incredibly busy since lockdown lifted. Andover BID is delighted to have been involved in many initiatives positively promoting Andover and encouraging members of the public to shop locally and support their town centre.

Businesses are telling us that this has definitely worked and that there has been a steady stream of people shopping throughout the week with Thu, Fri & Sat in particular being very busy.

“We believe that Andover with its easy access, safe and largely pedestrianised town centre and low cost parking is attracting both local people and those from further afield, it is a very encouraging situation”.

Andover BID have also been advertising independent businesses and their online platforms by putting together and promoting an InAndover Online Brochure which has proved very popular. Andover BID have been promoting business’s around the town with the help of Andover’s well loved Luis Wyatt in the all new ALSO videos (Andover Local Shopping Online) which has proved to be a real hit, you can catch Luis here exploring Andover’s ‘Pop up Christmas Market’ located in one of the Chantry Centre units. The first ALSO video was launched back in November and has provided amazing coverage, getting up close and personal with businesses such as The Travelling cupcake, Indiglo, David Mellors Family Jewellers, Canto Gelato, Burgos Pet World and Mooch, episodes with more businesses around the town coming soon.

There are other promotions in the lead up to Christmas to look out for, such as the Advent Calendar Giveaway, the chance to win one of 24 great local gifts in the lead up to Christmas, this is another great opportunity from a collaboration of Andover BID working with Local Businesses around the High Street. Also, to kick start Small Business Saturday, Andover BID have distributed the firstwave of ‘Support local bags’, you may be presented with one of these superb bags when shopping local in Andover High Street, containing anything from a Shop Local Voucher to use in our High Street to a free gift from one of our participating stores.
