The Andover Scouts will take to the streets this Sunday (April 27) for their annual St George’s Day Parade, proudly celebrating the patron saint of Scouting.
The parade will begin along Eastern Avenue at 2:45pm before making its way through Andover High Street, offering the perfect opportunity for the local community to come out, show their support, and cheer on the young members and leaders alike.
St George’s Day holds a special place in Scouting tradition. Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scout Movement, chose St George as the patron saint of Scouts because of the qualities he embodied: courage, honesty, and perseverance. Around the world, Scouts mark the day with ceremonies, parades, and reaffirmations of their Scout Promise.
Organisers from Andover District Scouts are encouraging residents to line the streets and join in the celebrations. A spokesperson said:
“St George’s Day is a key event in our calendar, and it’s wonderful for our members to be recognised for all they achieve. We hope as many people as possible will come and support them this weekend.”
