England’s top doctor is urging people in Andover and across the country to come forward for their Spring COVID-19 vaccine, as new data reveals nearly four in ten eligible individuals have already received their jab.

The NHS has now delivered over 3 million Spring vaccinations since the rollout began on 1 April, but with just under six weeks remaining in the programme, those most at risk are being reminded to top up their protection.
Who’s eligible?
The Spring vaccine is available until Tuesday 17 June for:
- People aged 75 and over
- Those who are immunosuppressed
- Older adult care home residents
Professor Sir Stephen Powis, NHS England’s National Medical Director, said:
“COVID-19 is not just a winter illness and we cannot let the recent sunshine fool us into thinking it is no longer a threat.
“The virus continues to be dangerous for those most at risk. Previous immunity can wane over time, so it is important to top-up your protection.”
Local NHS teams are making it easier than ever, with thousands of appointments available daily, mostly through GP surgeries and local pharmacies. Walk-in centres and mobile clinics are also helping to reach those in rural or harder-to-access areas.
Two-thirds of care homes have already been visited, and the NHS will continue to carry out housebound vaccinations for those unable to attend clinics.
Public Health Minister Ashley Dalton added:
“The COVID-19 vaccine is a crucial weapon in the fight to protect those most vulnerable… That is why it is essential everyone who is eligible for the spring jab gets it as soon as possible.”
