Rookwood School was delighted to recently welcome back William Swinnerton, a former pupil whose musical journey has taken him from our classrooms to the prestigious Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

William joined Rookwood in Year 6 and stayed through to the end of Year 11, leaving in 2021. During his time at the school, his passion for music and performance became clear – a passion he has since turned into a promising career.
Now in his second year of a Bachelor of Music in Vocal and Operatic Performance, William was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. His studies have helped him further develop his vocal range, stage presence, and dramatic technique, and he is already beginning to make a name for himself in the world of classical and operatic performance.
This Spring Term, William returned to Rookwood to perform in our Performing Arts concert, delivering a powerful and captivating rendition of “The Music of the Night” from The Phantom of the Opera. It was a standout moment for pupils and staff alike – a former student returning not only to perform but to inspire.
William also sat down with us to reflect on his journey since leaving school. In a short video, he shares how Rookwood played a key role in nurturing his love of singing and offers valuable advice to pupils interested in following their own creative path. He even treats viewers to another short performance – a delight for the ears!
We’re incredibly proud of William and all that he’s achieved so far. His talent, work ethic and love for the stage are an inspiration, and we look forward to following his continued success.
