The improvements, which aim to make everyday journeys safer, greener and easier, will be funded through a mix of Government grants, developer contributions and support from local councils.

Councillor Nick Adams-King, Leader of Hampshire County Council, said:

“Our goal is a better connected Hampshire, where people can get around more easily and safely. These projects will help us support local businesses, protect our environment and improve quality of life across the county.”

Schemes planned for Test Valley in 2025/26 include:

  • Andover – Eastern Avenue and London Road Junction Improvements
Upgrades to this busy junction to help manage increased traffic from new developments.
  • Eastern Andover Active Travel Improvements – Walworth Road Corridor
Measures to improve walking and cycling links between the Picket Piece development and Andover town centre.
  • Romsey to Timsbury Cycleway
A new cycle route linking Romsey with Timsbury.
  • Romsey to Ampfield Cycleway – Phase 1 and Phase 2
Work to create a quieter active travel route from Halterworth Lane to Ampfield via The Straight Mile.
  • North East Romsey Active Travel Improvements
Better walking and cycling connections between Ganger Farm and Romsey town centre.

Councillors say the Andover schemes in particular will improve safety and accessibility for people travelling by foot, bike or car.

Residents can view the full programme of proposed schemes and track progress on the County Council’s website.
