David Mellor Family Jewellers, who have shops in Andover, Eastleigh and Totton, hosted their first ever charity golf day at Stoneham Golf Club earlier this summer. The event, held in July, raised an impressive £13,073 for Mountbatten Hampshire, a charity close to the family’s heart.

The day was organised as a tribute to David Mellor, the founder of the second-generation family business, who sadly passed away in April. The family had hoped he would be there to witness the occasion, but in his absence the golf day became a poignant celebration of his life, legacy and the values he instilled.

Supported by players from the local community, loyal customers, suppliers and long-standing business partners, the event brought together those who have played a part in the company’s journey over nearly five decades. Entry fees, sponsorships, donations and raffle contributions all combined to make up the fundraising total, which will support Mountbatten Hampshire’s vital hospice services, including in-home care, counselling, and bereavement support.

David’s story began in 1976 when he started out as a market trader, becoming a familiar face at Blackbushe Market for more than three decades, as well as at markets in Andover, Farnborough and Guildford. After ten years working the stalls — often running two in a single day — he opened his first shop in Eastleigh. Steady growth followed, with the business expanding to Totton, Romsey, Shirley, and eventually Andover.

Known not just for his craftsmanship but for his warmth and generosity, David was a tireless supporter of the community, sponsoring local initiatives and lending his backing to causes across Hampshire. His long-term support of the Pride of Andover Awards remains one of his many lasting contributions to the town he held dear.

Today, the business continues under the stewardship of his children Dan, Jim and Amy, who are determined to carry on his vision. With almost 50 years behind them, the family have announced plans to make the charity golf day an annual event, with next year’s fundraiser set for 21st May 2026.

The milestone will also coincide with David Mellor Family Jewellers’ 50th anniversary — a celebration not just of a business, but of a legacy built on community, dedication and family spirit.
