Golfers Tee Off in Memory of Alan Potter, Raising £13,000

A charity golf day held at The High Post Golf Club has raised an impressive £13,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

The event, which took place on Thursday, 14th August, was organised in memory of Alan Potter, who sadly passed away from the disease in October 2005. Over the past 18 years, the annual tournament has now generated a remarkable £192,000 in support of the charity.

As well as funding vital research, the golf day continues to play an important role in raising awareness about the early detection of prostate cancer. Thanks to the encouragement of the event, several participants over the years have had their PSA levels checked, leading to early diagnoses. This timely intervention has allowed them to receive treatment sooner, greatly improving their chances of survival.

This year, 20 teams competed in a Texas Scramble format, teeing off with a shotgun start in glorious sunshine. After a competitive day on the course, players gathered for a buffet, raffle and spirited auction led by compere Adger Brown. The winners were later announced by Simon Potter, Alan’s son, with Timmy Allen’s team proudly lifting the trophy.

The event is organised each year by Simon Potter, Chris Bradbury, Ellie Potter and Neil Wells, with heartfelt thanks extended to the sponsors and participants whose generosity ensures its continued success.

Next year’s tournament will return to The High Post Golf Club on Thursday, 13th August 2026. Teams interested in entering, or businesses keen to sponsor, can contact the organisers at thealanpottergolfday@gmail.com
