Hampshire Hosepipe Ban is Over

Southern Water has lifted the hosepipe ban for homes in Hampshire. The ban started more than three months ago. It was needed after a long spell of very dry weather.

The ban helped to protect our local Test and Itchen rivers – special chalk streams that give us our drinking water. They are also home to rare wildlife. Using less water meant the rivers were protected during the dry period.

Southern Water said a big “thank you” to customers for helping. People saved millions of litres of water every day. Wetter weather in September and October also helped to fill up supplies. The company’s leakage team also fixed around 1,700 leaks, saving 17 million litres of water.

Tim McMahon from Southern Water said he was “incredibly grateful” to customers. He added:

“By working together, we’ve not only saved millions of litres of water… but also helped protect our precious chalk streams
