The initiative has already helped several organisations deliver sustainability projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, cut energy costs, and make local facilities more resilient to climate change.

Local projects making a difference

Among the latest recipients are Ampfield Parish Council, Sherfield English Village Hall Trust, and Woodley Village Hall, each receiving £10,000 to install solar panels and battery storage. These upgrades will generate renewable electricity and help reduce reliance on traditional energy sources.

Other successful applicants include:

  • Abbotswood Community Association
  • Baddesley Baptist Church
  • Over Wallop Parochial Church Council
  • Abbey United Reformed Church
  • Valley Park Community Association
  • Wellow Men’s Shed

Their projects range from energy efficiency improvements to community-led sustainability initiatives.

“Turning great ideas into reality”

Councillor Alison Johnston, Portfolio Holder for Climate Emergency and Countryside, said:

“These projects are a fantastic example of how local groups can take meaningful action to tackle climate change and support their communities.

“The Climate Change Grant is here to help turn great ideas into reality. I encourage any eligible organisation with a project in mind to get in touch and apply.”

How to apply

The Climate Change Grant is open to community groups and not-for-profit organisations across Test Valley.

  • Grants of up to £10,000 are available.
  • Projects applying for more than £5,000 must include 20% match funding.
  • All projects must demonstrate how they will reduce greenhouse gas emissions or improve community resilience to the effects of climate change.

Applications are open until 31 December 2025, or until the funding pot is fully allocated.

Interested groups are encouraged to review the application guidance and contact the Climate Change team to discuss their project ideas before applying.
