Enham Village Post Office & Stores are once again proving why they’re at the heart of their community, as the award-winning local business takes on a series of fun and creative challenges in support of BBC Children in Need this week.

The team — led by long-time owners Leslie Barry and Tim Francis — have enthusiastically embraced the Post Office Pudsey’s 2025 Challenge, rallying both staff and customers to join in the fundraising spirit ahead of Children in Need Day this Friday.
Earlier this year, the team spent time at CarFest, where they joined forces with the Children in Need crew to help raise funds and awareness for the charity. The experience, surrounded by so many passionate supporters, left a lasting impression on Leslie, Tim, and the team — inspiring them to bring that same energy and enthusiasm back home to Enham for this year’s fundraising efforts.
There are five members of the team taking part, each contributing in their own unique way. Sue is walking her dog Lola five times, both dressed as Pudsey Bear, while Gay is crocheting five teddy bears. Zeta will be spending the day in her pyjamas, and Tim and Leslie have left their Friday fate in the hands of their customers, who have been submitting challenge suggestions throughout the week.
Leslie said:
“We’ve been here for over 20 years, and we love giving back to the community and fundraising. We spent last year at CarFest with the Children in Need team, and it really inspired us to do more. We love what we do, supporting the community and bringing people together. We have a fantastic team here who share our values. We like putting the fun into fundraising”
Friday’s event promises to be full of fun and community spirit, with Children in Need merchandise, Lottie’s Dotty Cookies, and even Gain’s 3D bears available in store. Tim and Leslie’s challenges will be revealed on their social media pages, keeping customers guessing right up until the big day.
The store has already had an impressive year, having been named Best Village Shop & Post Office in the 2025 Countryside Alliance Awards, which celebrate excellence in rural retail and community service.
Located in Enham Alamein, the SPAR store and Post Office — was praised by judges as a “cornerstone of the community”, recognised for its support of local suppliers, inclusive ethos, and commitment to providing a friendly, reliable service to residents.
Speaking about the accolade earlier this year, Leslie said:
“We really felt it was important to take up the mantle when we were nominated because our amazing customers had taken the time to put us forward for the award. We’ve had overwhelming support from the whole village.”
With a well-earned reputation for kindness, creativity, and community spirit, it’s no surprise that Enham Village Post Office & Stores are once again leading the way — proving that even the smallest village shops can make a big difference.
