As the NHS ramps up its winter vaccination drive, Andover residents are being urged to get their free flu jab while they’re out and about doing their Black Friday and Christmas shopping.

With flu cases rising earlier than expected this year, NHS teams across Hampshire are setting up pop-up vaccination clinics in busy local areas to make it easier for people to get protected. Alongside these temporary sites, pharmacies and GP practices across Andover continue to offer both booked and walk-in flu vaccinations.
Local NHS teams say the message is simple:
“Catch a bargain, not a bug.”
The flu jab takes around two weeks to become fully effective, meaning now is the ideal time to get vaccinated ahead of the festive season.

- Your GP practice, by booking in advance
- Online via the NHS App or at www.nhs.uk/bookflu
- By calling 119
Parents are also being reminded to complete school flu vaccination consent forms or book appointments for children aged 2–3.

- Anyone with a long-term health condition
- Pregnant women
- Carers and close contacts of immunosuppressed individuals

“We’re Bringing Vaccines to Where People Already Are”
The NHS says pop-up clinics are appearing in shopping centres, high streets, and busy community spaces across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to boost uptake – especially as cold weather increases the risk of flu complications for older and vulnerable residents.
COVID-19 Vaccinations Also Available
COVID-19 jabs remain available for:
- Adults aged 75+
- Older adult care home residents
- People who are immunosuppressed
These can also be booked through local pharmacies, GP practices, online, or via 119.
