Popular local band The Torn Off Strips have officially released their first ever original track, “Two Doors Away”, which is now available on Spotify, YouTube and other major streaming platforms.
The release marks a major milestone for the band, who are well known locally for their live performances and loyal following across the Andover music scene.
Songwriter and band member Kieron Broads shared his excitement about finally releasing the track after years in the making.
He explained: “So after what seems like an eternity, our first ever original material as a band is finally released today.”
Kieron revealed that the song was originally written a couple of years ago and had taken time to develop into the finished product now being heard by listeners.
He praised fellow band members John, Simon and David for their contributions to the recording, while also highlighting producer Dan Parkinson for helping bring the track to life.
Kieron said: “I can’t begin to say how proud and excited I am with the end result. My brilliant bandmates John, Simon & David have done an amazing job and sound incredible on this song.”
He added: “A huge shout out has to go to Dan Parkinson who heard my original demo with John, was very keen to work on it and has done an incredible job producing what is, in my opinion, a great end result.”
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Kieron said the lyrics were influenced by the storytelling style of Welsh rock band Stereophonics.
“The lyrics are inspired by the Stereophonics so were my attempt to write a story and not go down the usual clichéd route,” he explained.
Kieron also reflected on his musical journey, admitting he did not begin playing instruments until his mid-20s.
“Well I didn’t start actually playing an instrument until my mid 20’s and was a bedroom guitarist for years,” he said. “Then about 15 years ago, I built up the courage to start a band called A Social Misfit before I was asked to try out for Torn Off Strips about 11 years ago.”
The band’s new single is already generating excitement locally, with supporters encouraged to nominate “Two Doors Away” in the Best Original Song category at the upcoming Andover Music Awards.
Listeners can also hear the track featured on Andover Radio with Ben Tuffin giving the song its first play on air.
