A Snip for Steve: Fundraiser in Memory of Much-Loved Andover Man

Andover resident Steve Rogerson is set to brave the barber’s chair this weekend in memory of his late father, raising funds for the hospice that cared for him in his final days.

Marking almost a year since his dad, also named Steve, passed away following a long battle with cancer, Rogerson has pledged to cut off his 15-inch locks and donate them to The Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair through illness.

What began as a three-year “Viking-inspired” hair experiment has now become a heartfelt way to honour his father’s memory. Rogerson admitted that losing his hair – which has been the source of both envy and playful ridicule from friends – will feel like parting with a piece of his identity.

“This isn’t going to be enjoyable. I’m not climbing a mountain or doing a skydive – this is personal,” he said. “My hair has been a big part of who I am, but donating it and raising money for two wonderful causes is worth every inch.”

Alongside donating his hair, Rogerson is raising money for the Countess of Brecknock Hospice, which provided care for his father in his final days. His original fundraising target was £500, but donations have already hit £1420 (At time of writing) with funds still coming in. Having reached this milestone, he has also agreed to shave off his beard – joking that he will end up “looking like a potato.”

Steve senior, who died peacefully at the hospice on 11th September 2024, was a well-known and much-loved figure in the Andover community. Kind and generous by nature, he was heavily involved in organising the Andover Model Railway Shows and was remembered fondly by all who knew him.

The family praised the Countess of Brecknock Hospice for the compassionate care shown, describing staff as “incredible in making his last days peaceful and comfortable.” His wife continues to benefit from the hospice’s support groups, which have helped her through the grieving process.

The big cut will take place this Saturday (27/09/2025), carried out by Nina at The Cutting Edge, who has stepped in to ensure the fundraising promise is fulfilled.

Donations are still being accepted, with every pound going towards supporting the hospice and the Little Princess Trust.
