Sparsholt College Group’s Andover Campus spent the night celebrating its students’ dedication, ambition, and persistent hard work at its annual Achievers’ Awards at The Lights Theatre on Friday 21 June. The awards highlight the college’s holistic and personalised philosophy which goes into the education of every single student.
The Achievers’ Awards is a culmination of all the hard work and dedication that students, staff, and parents showcase throughout the academic year at Andover College. Their results are a powerful indicator of the quality of teaching and support the college provides and demonstrating that students are getting the most out of their time at Andover College.
Ben Stokes, Vice Principal said: “The Andover Achiever Awards are a wonderful and richly deserved celebration for Andover students, parents, and staff. It was fantastic to see so many families and friends there to support our students, and we can’t wait to see what this year’s cohort go on to achieve in their future endeavours. Andover Campus is committed to providing a platform of high educational standards and credibility which we continue to uphold and can be seen in every single student who has won an award tonight.”
Our Guest of Honour was Alisha Kelly Brown, an alumnus of Andover College who finished with a distinction profile on the Access to higher education Nursing and Healthcare Professions course. Since leaving college, Alisha has worked as a mental health support worker, lived in New Zealand and worked as a healthcare support worker at Winchester hospital throughout the pandemic. Alisha’s journey thus far inspired current students at the very beginning of their journey.
The Alan Guyatt Mature Learner Achievement award was awarded to Jodie Tomkins whose nomination read: Jodie is a mature learner who has put her all into her Foundation Art course. She has done the course alongside her daughter, whilst her youngest is also a student at the college, and is an example to them both, and others in how to go about lifelong learning and how to be supportive of others. She is an example to other students, and even adults of how to be hardworking, dependable and strive to do your best, whilst being there for others too and showing that age is not a barrier to creating amazing thought-provoking work.
The Personal Achievement Award recognises a learner who has made tremendous progress and effort to reach excellent standards and this year was awarded to Amy-Rose. Following a move from the Isle of Wight, Amy was extremely determined that she was going to leave college with a level 3 childcare qualification. Starting on level 2 and re-sitting her GCSE English, she never gave up, showing resilience when she didn’t get the grade she needed. She continued with her English showing grit and determination to pass and moved to the level three course she wanted. But it is not just about her academic ability.
She has excelled in all aspects of preparing for adulthood, building friendships and communication skills, as well as successfully applying for a part-time job at Purple Oak. Amy has since secured a full-time job. She has become so independent and encompasses the successful learner journey here at the college.
The Principal’s Award was awarded to Olivia Rolfe who was commended on her commitment to the College not only through her dedication to her studies but going above and beyond, representing the student body during Open Events throughout the year. Olivia’s role in these events was pivotal and regarded, on the night, as the strongest marketing tool we have had in many years. Having accepted a place at the University of Southampton, we were delighted to take this opportunity to celebrate Olivia’s journey so far and look forward to seeing what she goes on to achieve.
